We didn’t get our visas

but we’re going anyway<!–

Benjamin leaves for Nigeria tomorrow. We shared through our prayer update list (sign up here) recently that the Nigerian embassies worldwide (at least in the three countries we’re coming from for this trip) were out of the visa stamps we needed. They have yet to arrive, so we’re using the alternate method of getting the visa on arrival. We have a printout from the embassy that says we’re all approved, we just have to process when we get to Nigeria and get the stamp then. Please pray for no more paperwork issues.

Our group of consultants-in-training along with our consultant have reviewed Genesis 1-9 together and this week we’re each consolidating the group’s comments on a chapter and sending them ahead to the Ron translation team. Benjamin did Gen 3 and found that a very different sort of challenge than the initial observations. (This does not necessarily mean that he will be working through notes on Gen 3 with the Ron, that just depends on where we are when it’s his turn. He’ll send a quick prayer note to the prayer list the morning before he’s leading the discussion with details.)

Please pray for the reorganization of a community checking training seminar. It was supposed to be outside the city we’ll be based in, at the main city of the Ron people. However, recent attacks mean we won’t be going out there and need to shrink and move it back to where we’re staying. Please also pray about our drive across the country as there has been significant flooding in Nigeria.

Hopefully, the team will be able to fix issues that are problems and help us understand ones that aren’t and we’ll be able to move quickly and profitably through the text in person. Certainly, new issues will surface or things that seemed small will be large when actually brought up in conversation. Pray for wisdom and grace for all as we’re bringing six new people to meet the local team and four different voices and styles of working through the text.

At home, please keep Shanna and the kids in your prayers as Benjamin will be gone for about 2.5 weeks. This will be the longest stretch they’ve gone without other family around to help.

We have new prayer magnets! We’ve been slowly sending them out so some of you may have one already, but we know some don’t. If you’d like us to mail you one, reply with your address!

Did you know that this is part of Bible translation? Until a few days ago Benjamin didn’t realize that his computer building skills were also part of the required package. (Ok, all I did was swap in new batteries.) Most of our team will be taking laptops along for the Nigeria team(s).
