The Lord’s Timing

Over the last few years, we have had plenty of reasons to say, “Lord, why now?” In many of those cases, we have been able to look back and see that the timing was the best it could have been. He has been teaching us to trust his providence, including his timing, more and more. We hold plans a lot more loosely now. This time, the “Lord, why now?” is a bit more abstract and it seems easier to see some real tangible reasons to praise his timing.

Lolly with Benjamin & grandkids“Lord, why did you take mom at 65, just four years after her dad? Some of her grandchildren will never meet her, more will barely remember her, why?” Benjamin’s mom fought cancer better than anyone ever expected for the last two years. In February, we thought we had good news in the form of shrinking tumors. However, just a few months later the cancer grew and spread. Lolly went to her Savior on July 1 with much of her family around her bed. We are glad that her very difficult time was so short. Her memorial service can be viewed here.

At the same time, despite everything that is happening in our world and in our life, God has richly provided so that Benjamin is able to begin his new ministry assignment on August 1! He already knows he will start by diving into proofing translation aids for Exodus. Shanna is starting homeschool kindergarten for Mira at the same time. We are thankful for God’s timing, giving us flexibility to support our family in Mom’s last days and then immediately directing us back into the work of Bible translation. Pray that we would find a good routine that works for our family.

Sharing with Grace Hill Church in Pittsboro, NC, during a parking lot service. We’re grateful for all the churches who let us share about our upcoming ministry and are looking forward to sharing more as we get to work!

  1. Love this picture with your mom! And thankful with you for the timing of it all, and that you were able to be there. And that we’ll see her again for eternity!!!!
