Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! (We promise our children were happier than they look here…)
** What we did in 2025 ————————————————————
This year our unfoldingWord content team completed translation resources for nine books of the Old Testament: Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, Joel, Nahum, and Malachi. These resources help church-based translation teams produce accurate, clear translations in their own languages. Benjamin specifically worked on Leviticus and Deuteronomy and building AI-assisted workflows to help the team use their time as efficiently as possible.
Each book we finish is another step toward putting tools in the hands of any church, anywhere, to translate the whole Bible. ————————————————————
** Looking ahead to 2026 ————————————————————
In 2026, we have an ambitious goal: finish the Old Testament. Right now our whole team is working together on Psalms. After that, we have sixteen books remaining: Numbers, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Amos, Micah, Habakkuk, and Zechariah.
When we cross that finish line, church teams worldwide will be a lot closer to having what they need to translate the complete Bible—and a lot better equipped. That’s exciting, and you’re making it possible. ————————————————————
** Travel ————————————————————
This was a slower year for international trips. Benjamin did get to Jordan in the fall to work with a team translating our resources into Arabic. It was a fruitful time of troubleshooting their processes and experimenting with AI tools for drafting. That team is now experimenting with ways to incorporate it into their process.
In the fall, opportunities came up for trips to Nigeria, St. Lucia, and Vanuatu; then each closed for different reasons. It was an interesting few weeks for sure.
With our hard push to finish the Old Testament resources, 2026 may also be a lighter year for travel. But once we cross that finish line, we’re hopeful Benjamin will be going on more trips to train and support translation teams directly.
We did travel as a family to Orlando this summer for meetings with Wycliffe and a time of reconnecting with others in the organization. ————————————————————
** At home ————————————————————
We asked the kids about their favorite memories or things they are thankful for from this year. They all like Awana (Bible memory club.)
Mira is grateful to have made lots of new friends this year, and enjoys events with them. Peregrine’s favorite memory was flying in an airplane (for our trip to Orlando) and he especially likes having Shanna as his Awana teacher. Anastasia loves stargazing and our kittens. (Pray for the kids: one cat went missing a few days ago and out here, probably isn’t coming back). Cyrus loves riding on the “tractor” (read: lawnmower) with Daddy and talking non-stop. Benjamin has enjoyed exploring and discovering all the plant diversity on our new property this year–finding dogwoods and grapevines and plants we didn’t know like Virgin’s Bower. Shanna has appreciated a year of regular rhythms and family visits. ————————————————————
** Prayer requests for 2026 ———————————————————— * Smooth and speedy completion of Old Testament resources * Opportunities to train and encourage translation teams more directly * Continued growth in relationships in our new area * Wisdom for educational decisions as Mira enters middle school and Anastasia starts kindergarten * Time and energy to manage all the needs of home, family, and work
