Everyone, Would you pray:
– for tomorrow’s (Saturday 10/22) gathering. 20-50 pastors, deacons, and other Christians will be coming to us to try to learn about how a community can check their own Bible translation. We will be giving some brief training and then splitting into groups to search through an intentionally error-filled translation of the tower of Babel story. Prizes will be given to encourage people to speak up and find errors. We hope that by the end the community will begin to see how they can accelerate the translation process by spreading it throughout the community. Lord willing they will apply this process to Exodus next spring.
Another exciting thing is that representatives of at least three neighboring languages will be along to observe. These groups have no scripture in their own language, but the Ron people have a vision to bring the scriptures to them! Pray for them to be encouraged as well.
As for checking all of Genesis, that goal has been adjusted in all of our minds as we moved slowly through the text this week. Several of the translators (as well as us consultants in training) are new, computer skills, understanding of translation, spelling and other issues have kept us from progressing as rapidly as we dreamed … however, it has been great to see all of those issues grow smaller each day. They are really sharp and motivated (it’s really hard to get them to break for meals).
