We were traveling on Mira’s first birthday, and busy after we got back, but we decided that her first year of life was worth celebrating, even if it was a bit belated. They built a playground in front of our building early this spring, and our friends came out to celebrate with us (and watch Mira smash a cake.)
Mira couldn’t get enough of the banana cake they served while we were at the conference so we decided that was a good choice for birthday cake. Seemed to go over fairly well with everyone. 🙂 (Sidenote: I FOUND FOOD COLORING HERE. That is all. It’s a bit hard to tell, but it was a minty sort of green.)
Look at her. In the grass. With no pants and no shoes. So American.
She even got her very own (very large) piece. The wind may have been overly helpful with the candle though.
With cream cheese frosting. And birthday hats that lasted about 5 seconds.
She doesn’t mess around. …She does ‘mess’ however.
I’m not sure how much actually went in her mouth, but she enjoyed hauling it around the playground with her. And the whole idea of having a picnic birthday party is incredibly foreign here, so we threw up our hands and broke all the cultural rules. Luckily there weren’t many people around to see.
It was simple. It was fun. We didn’t have her birthday present yet because everything was closed for the holiday we forgot about. But, in the end, we enjoyed an afternoon in the park with friends, and Mira was celebrated. Mission accomplished. 🙂
Thanks to our friends (who shall not be named unless they so choose) for taking photos for us!
